Dear Parents and Guardians,
This year our school will participate in the Great American SpellCheck, a program that erases objections that many parents have to traditional fund-raisers. It’s a fund-raiser that makes sure 100% of the money raised benefits our school, involves no students knocking on the doors of strangers and is rooted in academics. One PTA president whose school used spelling to raise $6,000 said it “is now our No. 1 fund-raiser.” (Wall Street Journal, March 29, 2007)
Here’s how it works: Your child studies 50 spelling words and collects pledges from family and friends for every word that he or she spells correctly on the Great American SpellCheck 50-word test. Your child improves his or her spelling skills and our school enjoys the financial benefits! There is a minimum of $25 due by January 29th. This is our only mandatory fundraiser for the school; your participation is greatly appreciated.
Here is the Great American SpellCheck fund-raising timeline:
Monday December 10h : Spell Check words go home along with pledge sheets.
January 3rd : Students must return pledge sheets to School Official/Teacher.
January 11th : We will conduct the Great American SpellCheck written test.
January 16th : Spelling Bee will be conducted for Grades 3-5.
January 17th : Spelling Bee will be conducted for Grades 6-8.
January 18th : Teachers send home with each participating student the student’s graded test and pledge form.
January 29th : This is the deadline for supporters to return their pledged funds.
We ask that you:
