Disciplinary Policies
A Muslim is expected to be well disciplined at all times. Enforcement of a discipline policy is to help students acquire the skills and habits that will assist them to become well-adjusted and successful individuals-for themselves, their families and society as a whole.
Universal school does not participate in any form of Corporal Punishment. The school will strive to promote an Islamic atmosphere and organization and provide Irshaad, or Islamic direction, guidance through understanding and developing self-discipline. Any behavior or action that interferes with another student’s growth or their own growth is not allowed. Teachers accept the responsibility to teach students social and academic skills. At the same time, students are expected to accept the responsibility to discipline themselves, and parents are expected to assist the school by properly training their children at home.
Discipline issues will be brought to the administrator’s attention and they will notify the parent of the situation. At that time, parents, teacher, and administrator will work together in providing the best solution for the child. The school expects parents to take corrective measures with their children for any breach of the discipline that disrupts the class or the school environment.
Code of Conduct
All students at Universal School is expected to adhere to the following:
Cheating
Cheating is considered a major offense to the school. It is considered a serious breach of school policy and will be disciplined as such. All offenses of cheating are to be reported to the Principal. The following are the definitions of cheating categories:
Assignments – Sharing or using information with another student regarding an assignment. This includes homework and research papers.
Testing – Soliciting help during a test. This includes the use of information brought into class, sharing information during a test, or with students who have not yet taken the test
Plagiarism – The use of information from another source without proper documentation or footnoting.
Transportation
If a student who rides the bus regularly is not riding the bus on any given day, please notify your district transportation by 7:00 am. An out of the ordinary early pick-up or for students to be transferred to another location, a written permission and school approval are required. The school will not allow an individual other than those listed on their Release Form to pick-up students.
Students are to behave appropriately during all times. Discipline issues that arise will result in probationary periods and eventually suspension from the bus and parents will have to transport their child until suspension lifted. Under extreme circumstances will a student be expelled permanently from the bus.

Approved Disciplinary Actions: NY State Education Law 12:73 approve the following types of discipline for violations of student disciplinary codes:

- Come to school everyday and attend classes on time
- Bring all necessary materials to school and class
- Dress according to the school dress code
- Try your hardest and do your best
- Help yourself and others to learn
- Manage yourself: (a) Follow directions; (b) Walk in an orderly manner; (c) Keep hands and other objects to yourself; (d) Speak politely; (e) Treat others with kindness and respect; (f) Take care of property
- Use playground and school equipment safely
- Prohibited behaviors: (a) Undermining the religious ideals of the school; (b) Insubordination; (c) Profanity or name calling; (d) Harassment of fighting; (e) Dishonesty, cheating or plagiarism; (f) Illegal or immoral conduct; (g) Bringing prohibited items to school, such as: (i) Radios, CD players, and tape recorders; (ii) Skateboards and roller blades; (iii) Playing cards (unless teacher approved); (iv) Live animals; (v) Fireworks; (vi) Magazines (unless teacher approved); (vii) Dangerous items of any size; (h) Misdemeanors: (i) Gum chewing; (ii) Snowballing; (iii) Any behavior that affects another student (physically or verbally); (iv) Showing any disrespect to any staff member or volunteer.

- Remain seated, and quiet
- Keep your hands, arms, and head inside the bus at all times
- Do not stick or throw anything outside the bus
- Keep all items out of the aisle
- Do not eat on the bus
- Keep the bus clean
- Obey the bus driver and be courteous
- Do not damage any property
- Stay seated until he bus stops
- Walk in front of the bus
Recess and Playground Rules
- Students may go outside for recess with their class. If parents do not want their child to go outside, a note with a specific reason why the student cannot go outside must be provided.
- Remain on school grounds and do not go beyond the field that is cut.
- Keep all games in a teacher designated area in the lot.
- Share the equipment and take turns
- Follow the rules of the game and play fairly
- Do not bring hard balls, frisbees or skateboards to school
- No tackling other s, climbing on each other’s back, play fighting, throwing snowballs, or sword fighting
- No throwing of stones or sticks
- Treat others as you would like them to treat you
- Ask a teacher or recess monitor for permission to re-enter the building
- Students shall not play on the playground in the morning before school
- When a disagreement occurs: (a) Try to settle it between yourselves by talking through the problem; (b) If the disagreement cannot be resolved, move on to another game; (c) If the disagreement continues, ask for the help of a teacher; (d) Disagreements will not be settled by fighting; (e) Balls, bats, jump ropes and other equipment will be kept in the storage room and are to be returned to the room after each recess of gym class.
