AGE REQUIREMENTS
Early Childhood Program
Applicants for the full day Pre-K program are required to be potty trained and 4 years of age by the beginning of the school year. Pre-K students not yet turning 4 years of age by first day of school may register their child for the half-day PK-3 program.
Primary and Elementary Levels
Kindergarten applicants must be five years of age by the December 1st deadline. Children transferring from other schools must have completed their current grade to enter into the next consecutive grade.
ENTRANCE TESTING
All new students are required to take an admissions test. This test is to ensure that the school can provide the appropriate needs for the student. If upon assessment it is apparent that the student requires special needs, the school may recommend that parents contact their child’s school district to request additional screening and on-site services. The school reserves the right to not admit students with disabilities due to the limitations of the services that the school can provide.
REGISTRATION
The first step in the admission procedure at Universal School is the completion of an entrance test for grades K and up and a prescreening for Pre-K. After approval of student’s assessments, parents are to fill out various registration forms, and documents such as immunization records, proof of address, and birth certificate will be needed to finalize registration, along with the payment of the $100 non-reimbursable registration fee, which is required every year for new and returning students. A $35 late registration fee is assessed after the April 1st registration deadline for the upcoming school year for returning students. The registration fee and completed registration forms are both needed to ensure a seat is held for the student. Re-registration takes place in late February.
NEW STUDENT TRANSFER
After the entrance testing is completed and approved, new students entering into 5th grade or higher will be admitted on a probationary period. This period will vary, depending on the student’s prior academic and behavior records from their previous school and will require a parent/school contract to be signed. This period will not be longer than end of 1st Qtr. of the school year that they are admitted. The School Administrator will then provide a waiver removing the probationary period. If a policy in the student handbook or parent/school contract is not abided by during the probationary period, it will result in the dismissal of the student from the Universal School. You will receive your probational contract by mid-June.
Withdrawals/Transfers
Written notice of transfer of withdrawal is mandatory. To withdraw or transfer your child to another school at any time during the year, a parent must contact the school office and have the entering school request student’s records. Records of students will be forwarded to receiving schools, unless there is a balance due on the student’s account, whereby records will be held until the account is paid in full. Parents will be reimbursement of tuition for the remainder of the year that they are attending if transferring during the school year.
RELEASE OF RECORDS
The parents of students transferring from another school need to request that student’s records from the previous school. Forms for the request are to be found in the Universal School Registration Packet.
Admissions will request academic information and end-of-the-year grades directly from the previous school. To do so, you must provide the following:
1.Complete mailing address of the student’s current school
2.A signed Record Request Form from the school.
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
Proof of immunization must be presented to the school before the student is allowed to attend class. Your child must be up to date with his/her immunization. Students will not be accepted into the school on the first day unless the immunizations are up to date, signed by a physician and approved by the school nurse. Student lacking some immunization may not enter school unless they are completed. Students that do not have immunization records by choice must provide official documentation stating reason(s) signed by doctor or leader of a religious institution. All records are reviewed by district appointed nurse, in which the school district of Williamsville may request further immunizations as needed.
Annual physicals also must be submitted by the start of the school year for all new students. Also, physicals must be submitted for re-entering students in grades Pre-K, K, 2nd, 4th and 7th grade using Williamsville District forms supplied by school office. Physicals must be in by the beginning of the school year. Students entering 6th grade or higher must show proof of the Varicella immunization or signed proof from the physician stating that the student has had chicken pox in the past.
Dental Examination certificates, new under New York State Education Law, are required of all children entering kindergarten or first grade indicating that a comprehensive dental examination was completed.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Before a student can re-register for a new school year, all prior balances must be paid in full, along with registration fee, book fee, and any outstanding after-school care or cafeteria related fees.. A payment plan must be chosen by the parent during registration using the Tuition
Preference Form. See Financial Policy from your registration packet.
